Job Summary:
The Senior Managing Actuary provides leadership and direction to ensure team strategies are successfully achieved.
Essential Functions:
- Accountable for the high-quality output from the functional areas of responsibility, examples include IBNR, rate advocacy, forecasting/budgeting, accrual development, financial risk modeling and bid development
- Communicate IBNR results to external actuaries engaged as part of audit or other events and defend those reserve estimates
- Maintain and develop internal statistical models to support key business goals / initiatives; bid pricing models, financial projections, contract modeling, ad hoc support projects
- Responsible for understanding various risk adjustment approaches and work with internal resources to determine the impacts of those risk methodologies on new member populations
- Review and drive the analysis around factors that can estimate the health of all of our lines of business
- Ensure internal stakeholders are held accountable for actuarial function requests like determining key assumptions that are included in CareSource rate development practices
- Proactively identify and influence at Senior Management levels expectations of rate changes for future years which may lead interaction with federal level and state level departments of insurance
- Lead the rate development activities across all lines of business within the company and with external vendors for assigned lines of business
- Provide support for new business projects for the business development team for the product / market assigned
- Identify opportunities across multiple functions within the organization where the actuarial team can drive completion of corporate goals
- Identify key stakeholder partners within Finance to reduce duplication of work and foster sharing of knowledge and ideas
- Provide support across entire LOB to ensure product line is consistent and regulated
- Drive new risk adjustment approaches and work with internal or external resources to determine the impacts of those risk methodologies on new member populations
- Oversee the review and validate data completeness and accuracy
- Oversee effectiveness of mentorship programs for analysts
- Perform any other job-related instructions as requested
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics or a related field or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required
- Five (5) years of actuarial experience is required
- Two (2) years management experience is required
- Strong database (SAS or Access) experience is preferred
- Managed Care or healthcare experience is preferred
Competencies, Knowledge and Skills:
- Expert proficiency level with Microsoft Excel
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Suite to include Word and Power Point
- Ability to manage, develop, motivate and reward staff
- Ability to effectively report data, analyze facts, and exercise sound business judgment when making recommendations

Licensure and Certification:
- Active Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation is required; Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation is preferred
Working Conditions:
- General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- May be required to travel less than 10% of the time
Compensation Range:
$104,400.00 - $182,700.00
