Volunteerism & Employee Giving
One of the most visible and meaningful ways we can express the heart of our culture is through service. Volunteerism is woven into our story. Long before we became the national organization we are today, our employees were showing up for our communities with generosity, empathy, and action. A spirit of service isn’t just something we do – it’s part of who we are and embedded in our mission to make a lasting difference in the lives of our members. Employees receive 12 hours of paid time annually for volunteering and giving back in their communities across the country.
Our employees also generously contribute to numerous workplace giving opportunities, another impactful demonstration of how we live our mission. Through combined giving, we can address urgent needs impacting our members, coworkers, families, and communities.
Community Partnerships
We participate in varied career fairs and virtual events to find the best talent possible. We partner with traditional organizations, colleges and universities, as well as organizations supporting Veterans, persons with disabilities, Historically Black Colleges & Universities, and Hispanic-serving institutions.
We have received numerous local and regional recognitions, reflecting our deep commitment to the communities we serve.
We're Creating a Workplace without Limitations
Our heartfelt goal is to be a guiding light: setting new standards for best practice and becoming a model employer for individuals of all abilities.
Since 2022, in partnership with The Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement, our disability strategy has been put into action through strong collaborations, a practical roadmap, clear governance, and accountability measures. Launched in 2023, our Employee-led Action Committee promotes accessibility across multiple areas such as accommodations, training and education, facilities, recruitment, and more. Additionally, our National Disability Advisory Board (NDAB), established in 2024, brings external expertise by providing feedback on policies and practices, advising and mentoring various workstreams, sharing best practices, and monitoring accessibility trends.
